Axis are not terrritorial like whitetail, they go where there is food and does. They can be patterned at feeders when it gets dry or cold and natural food is less. When they breed and have hard horns is determined by when they are born. So at any time you will see axis bucks in velvet, hard horned or just dropped their antlers. Escondido Ranch has one of the best axis buck herds in the state, we consistently shoot gold medal bucks. Sept., and Oct. are good times to hunt for trophy class axis bucks.
